The Law of Magnetism as applied to Executive Protection

According to leadership expert John Maxwell, the Law of Magnetism is one of 21 irrefutable laws of leadership.  At its core, this law states that who you are is who you attract.  If one is to believe in a set of values they will attract talent who also believes in the same set of values.  In the security profession, we pride ourselves on being discrete with our employer’s & client’s information, honest in our communication, and innovative in our thought-process towards our approach to problems. These are all terrific traits; but how do we know before hiring someone to our team that they will meet the job benchmarks and fit into the team environment & corporate culture created?… Read More

Travel Risk Management & Duty of Care Trends 2017

I had the pleasure of attending the Global Business Travel Association (GBTA) annual convention in Boston this week.  Overall, it contained a somewhat surprising number of travel security & risk management related education sessions and found the principle of Duty of Care to be thematic throughout the program.  General David Patraeus was a keynote speaker highlighting US politics and military perspectives as related to operating in the global environment.  ASIS International Chief Knowledge Officer Michael Gips participated as a panelist on a discussion related to travel risk management at general session as well.  Individuals from Facebook, Berkshire Hathaway, Northwestern University, Marriott International, and many others spoke on relevant topics in separate sessions as well.  … Read More

Security Transformation & The Competitive Advantage – What Phase is Your Enterprise In?

Often times in in our consulting practice we hear from our clients and prospective clients that they are missing a policy or procedure, gates or guns, cameras or access control components that they desire to have in place.  This may all be very well appropriate perhaps for the organization, however, what often times occurs is a disconnect with the enterprise security risk management plan.  All organizations regardless of their size need to have a plan in place.  Some will be required to be more robust than others.  Some don’t have one & know they need one and, although rare, some don’t realize a need for one at all, whether it be out of ignorance or negligence.… Read More

Top 2 Security Risks for 2017 and What You Can Do to Prevent Them

Recently, I was interviewed by Camera Security Now for my thoughts & insights into the Top 2 Security Risks for US based multi-national corporations for 2017.  I had a terrific time meeting & discussing today’s issues overall and especially want to thank Andy Wendt for reaching out to me and putting this article together!

Incidents of violence in the news have dramatically increased over the past 2 years. These situations include:

Small vs. Large

The question has often come about from many companies seeking consultants, auditors and program developers, how can a young company with limited staffing support a company on a global scale and the answer is and always will be Strategic Business Partnerships.  There is a reason most companies seek outside support and that is these individual companies provide the specific knowledge, experience and expertise to assist the larger company without requiring them to hiring internal staff, especially on short term projects and assignments.

The company selected must have a clearly defined program that meets the client’s needs and that their leadership has the knowledge, experience and expertise to support the needs on a global scale and that they can demonstrate these capabilities through their global partnership. … Read More

PRS Radio – Show #3 – Active Shooter / Domestic Terrorism / Workplace Violence

Time: 22:00 ~ France, San Bernardino, Orlando… these words alone strike a chord in all of us similar to 9/11.  Excel Industries, Accent Signage Systems, Hartford Distributors, for some reason do not stimulate the same kind of response. Yet these last three companies were the victims of mass shootings by a workplace violence perpetrator in just the last 3- 5 years.

Believe it or not, the shooters in all of these atrocities exhibited similar behaviors prior to the event. The specific motivation for the act may have been different, but their behaviors well before the shooting are surprisingly alike!

This 22-minute webinar reveals these behaviors in order to identify and thus prevent these killings. … Read More
